The Future is Here: Proto Revolutionizes Communication with Hologram Technology
The Jetsons, a popular TV show from the 1960s, foreshadowed the rise of AI chatbots, video calls, robotic vacuum cleaners — and now holograms.
U.S. startup Proto is making waves as the first platform to allow for communication through holograms. The company’s products are physical boxes that display 3D images from pre-recorded videos, live feeds, phones, and cameras. They can also be used for video calls and interviews. The images appear to be 3D because of shadowing and reflective effects.

The Proto Hologram Experience
Proto offers two real-size hologram boxes: the Proto Epic and the newly introduced Proto Luma. The Proto Epic, used by over 100 companies, ranges from $29,000 to $65,000, while the more affordable Proto M tabletop version costs $5,900.

Since its launch in 2018, Proto has sold close to 1,000 hologram boxes, with notable appearances in media and entertainment. Jon Bon Jovi’s bar in Nashville installed a permanent Proto hologram unit, and the technology even made its way to America’s Got Talent. The versatility of Proto is evident in its wide range of applications.
Revolutionizing Communication
Proto is steadily making its mark on communication, with Amazon utilizing it in an AI hub in San Francisco. Healthcare facilities are also leveraging Proto holograms to bring specialists to patients, ensuring easy access to specialized care without the need for extensive travel.

Proto’s innovation comes at a time when tech giants like Meta are exploring holographic technology. Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg recently showcased Orion, Meta’s holographic glasses that combine holograms and digital communication with the physical world.
Zuckerberg described the glasses as a “time machine,” hinting at their transformative potential pending fine-tuning before public release.
Embracing the Future with Proto
Proto is at the forefront of a new era in communication, bridging the gap between reality and virtual experiences. As hologram technology continues to evolve and reshape industries, Proto remains a key player in shaping a future that once only existed in science fiction.
