How to Claim Your Share of Cash App’s $15M Settlement

Have you ever used Cash App to transfer money? If so, you could be entitled to a part of a $15 million class action settlement.

A recent lawsuit settlement revealed that Cash App failed to adequately protect customers’ personal information, leading to data breaches in 2021 and 2023 affecting over 8.2 million users.

In the 2021 lawsuit, it was reported that an employee of Cash App accessed user information without permission.

The lawsuit also alleges that Cash App and its parent company, Block, were negligent and breached obligations by mishandling customer complaints about unauthorized transactions.

Block and Cash App deny any liability in these allegations.

Who is eligible for payment?

Cash App users who have had their personal information accessed without consent or have experienced fraudulent transactions on their account between August 23, 2018, and August 20, 2024, can submit a claim.

To be eligible for a settlement payment, users can submit a claim through the settlement administrator’s website until November 18.

How much can Cash App users receive?

Those eligible for a settlement may receive up to $2,500, depending on their circumstances and the number of claims submitted.

Claims can be made for out-of-pocket losses, transaction losses, and lost time.

Claimants for out-of-pocket losses can receive up to $2,000, while those for lost time can get up to $25 for three hours and an unspecified amount for transaction losses.

“Block and Cash App Investing have also agreed to certain enhancements to their data security,” according to the settlement administrator’s notice. Specific details on these enhancements were not provided.
