SpaceX’s Starlink Revolutionizes Carnival Cruises’ Internet Connectivity
SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has achieved another significant milestone, this time in the realm of internet connectivity on Carnival Cruises. Carnival recently announced that 100% of its ships have been equipped with high-speed internet courtesy of Musk’s Starlink technology.
This innovative installation has been completed on over 90 ships in Carnival’s global fleet, providing passengers with more reliable Wi-Fi connectivity even in remote parts of their journeys. Additionally, the implementation of Starlink has enhanced operational and communication capabilities for the ship’s crew.
Carnival Corporation’s CEO, Josh Weinstein, expressed his satisfaction with the new technology, stating, “Starlink has been a game-changer for the onboard connectivity experience our cruise lines deliver to their guests.”
The deployment of Starlink on Carnival ships began in December 2022 and has now been expanded to include all of Carnival’s subsidiaries, such as Princess Cruises and Holland America Line.
Elon Musk himself acknowledged the news, simply commenting “Cool” in response to the successful implementation of Starlink on Carnival ships.
Royal Caribbean had previously initiated the installation of Starlink on its ships in 2022, and as of February 2024, has been upgrading more vessels to the advanced technology to enhance internet services for passengers.
Despite the challenges faced by the cruise industry, Carnival has reported a strong performance in Q1 2024, achieving record revenue of $5.4 billion and experiencing a surge in bookings. This success has resulted in a significant increase in Carnival’s stock value, which was up nearly 41% year over year.
This alignment with SpaceX’s Starlink technology further positions Carnival Cruises as a leader in providing cutting-edge connectivity solutions for its guests, setting a new standard for onboard Wi-Fi experiences.
