Exciting news for travelers: United Airlines has just announced that they will be offering free in-flight WiFi, powered by Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite internet technology. This game-changing service is set to launch next year and will be available on over 1,000 United aircraft.
United CEO Scott Kirby stated, “Everything you can do on the ground, you’ll soon be able to do onboard a United plane at 35,000 feet, just about anywhere in the world.” This means that passengers can stay connected and productive while flying high in the sky.
For United MileagePlus members, the WiFi will be complimentary, while non-members can access it for a small fee. This move is part of United’s strategy to enhance the inflight experience and provide passengers with the best possible amenities.
Gwynne Shotwell, president and chief operating officer at SpaceX, expressed excitement about the partnership with United Airlines, stating, “With Starlink onboard your United flight, you’ll have access to the world’s most advanced high-speed internet from gate to gate, and all the miles in between.”
With this initiative, United joins other airlines like Delta Air Lines, Hawaiian Airlines, and JetBlue in offering free or complimentary in-flight WiFi to passengers. The availability of WiFi on planes has become increasingly important, with around one in five people on U.S. flights connecting to in-flight WiFi, according to the Airline Passenger Experience Association.
